Is SEO something a small business should start early?

I’ve been thinking about SEO for our website, but I’m still unsure whether it’s something we should invest in now or wait until the business gets a bit bigger. We have a limited marketing budget, so I don’t want to spend money on things that won’t be useful at this stage. I’ve been looking into affordable SEO UK services and trying to understand what a smaller business can realistically expect from them. If you started SEO while your business was still growing, did you find it helped in the long run?
